Shop Till I Dropped At Broadway Flea Market

This past Sunday, September 30 was Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS 32nd Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction. If you are not familiar with the Broadway Flea Market, it's an annual event that takes place on 44th and 45th Street in the heart of the Theatre District. It is one of the most anticipated events for Broadway fans as some travel from all over the world as far away as Japan and Finland to attend.  The Flea Market also marks the official kick off for the new Broadway season as well as the holiday shopping season.

The streets were crowded with fans hunting for unique pieces of Broadway history including thousands of vintage and new Playbills, programs, posters, costumes, props and more. In addition there were silent and live auction items and Broadway celebrity signing opportunities.

The day was fabulous, although I was later exhausted as a result of my 8 hour search for treasures.  My hard work was rewarded by finding a star that lights up from the set of Carousel, a favorite show of mine.  Some of my other finds were Playbills from Falsettos OBC opening night, Anastasia color cover, Chicago at Encores, Merrily We Roll Along at Encores, and Les Miserables OBC. As a Lights of Broadway Showcards collector, I was happy to see the huge line for Squigs.

Because die hard fans like you and I,  along with support from theatre businesses much like Broadway Bazaar, this years flea market featured 58 tables, 80 of Broadway’s brightest stars and 210 live and silent auction items raising a grand total of $906,825 - making it the second highest in the event’s history. The 32 editions of the Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction have collectively raised $14.5 million.

The Broadway Flea Market may happen only once a year, but you can find unique Broadway Memorabilia as well as one-of-a-kind souvenirs all year round at Broadway Bazaar.  A portion of every item sold is donated to BCEFA and The Actors Fund. Be sure to check them out and use promo code: "MusicalMinute" for 30% off your first order!

My most recent purchase from Broadway Bazaar was a West Side Story signed poster by the original cast from the 50th Anniversary Reunion. How cool is that!!
